IOGP response to the public consultation on the Energy Taxation Directive (ETD) proposal

This document provides IOGP’s response to the EU public consultation on the Energy Taxation Directive (ETD) proposal.

The ETD should be an instrument that incentivizes the use of all lower-emission and low-carbon energy technologies and fuels based on full life-cycle GHG emission criteria. It is essential that the tax treatment of natural gas and low-carbon gases in power generation, heating and transport reflect, inter alia, their contributions to reducing CO2 emissions.
