Dear Member of the European Parliament,
Thirty years after the launch of the Barcelona Process, the European Commission will launch the New Pact for the Mediterranean, which is planned for adoption in the coming weeks. Being developed through an unprecedented consultation process involving partner countries, Member States, local authorities, civil society, academia, business, and citizens from both shores of the Mediterranean, this initiative will renew and deepen the EU’s engagement with the ten countries of the Southern Neighbourhood.
The Kangaroo group is pleased to invite Members to a timely opportunity to demonstrate leadership in the region’s secure, competitive, and sustainable transition.
The event will take place on Tuesday, 8 October 2025 | 12:30–14:00 | European Parliament, Strasbourg and will enable attendees to dive into the energy dimension of the New Pact for the Mediterranean and how it aims to strengthen a shared space of peace, prosperity and stability in the region and will translate political dialogue into joint initiatives with tangible impact in key areas such as energy and clean technologies, trade and investments, skills and jobs and security.
In today’s shifting geopolitical context, energy is not only a climate challenge, but also a question of sovereignty, resilience and strategic direction. With its abundant resources, opportunities for building hydrogen and CO₂ corridors, and strong interconnections with the EU, the region can become a cornerstone of Europe’s energy independence, competitiveness, and clean transition.
During the event, Members of the European Parliament, senior figures from the energy and industry sectors, and policy experts will discuss:
- How the New Pact for the Mediterranean can anchor a common energy future for Europe and its Southern neighbours;
- Why the Eastern and Southern Mediterranean matter strategically now – from energy flows to industrial partnerships and regional diplomacy;
- What political and infrastructure choices are needed to translate this vision into a lasting advantage for Europe and its neighbourhood?
We would be honoured by your presence at this important debate.
With best regards,
The Kangaroo Group
