IOGP Europe at EuropEC 2025

Catarina do Santos, Senior Policy Officer at IOGP Europe, will be speaking at the EuropEC 2025 Conference on Tuesday 10 June during the session titled "CCUS: Transforming Emissions into Opportunities."

As Europe accelerates its push toward industrial decarbonisation, Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) is increasingly recognised as a key enabling technology. The session will explore how CCUS can evolve from a mitigation tool into a driver of innovation and economic opportunity.

Despite the ambitious target set by the Net Zero Industry Act—50 million tonnes of CO₂ storage capacity annually by 2030—challenges remain. The lack of a viable business case and policy support threatens to delay investments and deployment. The panel will also examine how the Industrial Carbon Management Strategy (ICMS) could provide the necessary framework to support the development of a robust CO₂ economy.

From e-fuels and greenhouses to construction and chemical manufacturing, captured CO₂ holds enormous potential. Catarina will share IOGP Europe’s perspective on how to unlock this potential, scale up CCUS deployment, and ensure the EU remains competitive while meeting its climate goals.
