Snøhvit
Snøhvit is an offshore gas field in Northern Norway, that supplies gas to the Melkøya LNG production facility. Since the produced natural gas contains 5-6% CO2, it is separated and the CO2 is piped back to the Snøhvit field. There the CO2 is injected for permanent storage into the Tubaen saline formation at 2600m depth, beneath the gas production layers. The CCS project is the result of a tax on CO2 emissions which was introduced in Norway in 1991.
