Updated European CO₂ Storage Projects Map

We have published an updated version of the CO₂ Storage Projects in Europe map. The new edition reflects the growing momentum behind carbon capture and storage (CCS) as a key climate mitigation tool.

The map  includes:

  • 52 announced CCS projects across 13 European countries
  • A projected CO₂ injection capacity of 126 Mt/year by 2030, with contributions from flagship projects in the UK, Norway, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Italy
  • Detailed information on project timelines, partners, and storage types (depleted gas fields and saline aquifers)

This update highlights how strategic investment, policy support, and industrial innovation are accelerating the development of CO₂ storage infrastructure.

While Europe is on a clear path to meet and exceed its Net-Zero Industry Act 2030 target (50 Mt/year), the growing pipeline of projects illustrates the critical need for continued regulatory clarity, funding support, and infrastructure deployment.
