JOB TITLE: Junior Policy Officer CIP (Contrat d'immersion professionnelle)
DEPARTMENT: IOGP Europe, Energy & Climate Policy Team
REPORTING TO: Senior Policy Manager
DURATION: 6 months with possibility for extension/permanent contract
STARTING DATE: June/July 2023
The International Association of Oil & Gas Producers Europe (IOGP Europe) is looking for a Junior Policy Officer to support its European Affairs Policy Team based in Brussels. The selected candidate will be fully embedded with the team and will have the opportunity to gather experience in understanding EU Energy & Climate policy and associated regulatory framework.
SCOPE, MAIN PURPOSE & OBJECTIVES:
- Identify, monitor and report on emerging EU Energy & Climate policy and regulatory developments:
- Upcoming EU Energy & Climate policies, and regulation (e.g. Green Deal Industrial Plan, Net Zero Industry Act, hydrogen funding opportunities, Carbon Removals)
- National Energy & Climate Plans (NECPs)
- Assist the team in gathering and maintaining up-to-date information about Energy & Climate topics
- Support the Senior Policy Manager in preparing Expert Group / Committee meetings
- Support the team by developing draft analysis, position papers, responses to public consultations, background briefs and other materials (e.g. presentations, evaluations, minutes, speeches)
- Gather technical input and information from relevant IOGP Europe Expert Groups and other associations for advocacy purposes
- Attending external events in the field of energy and climate policy and report back
- Assist in drafting monthly newsletters
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in European Studies, Political Sciences, International Relations, Energy Policy or equivalent
- Experience:
- Internship in EU institutions or business association would be a strong plus.
- At least 6 months of experience working on energy, climate & environmental policy
- Skills:
- Coordination & organisation skills
- Strong research and analytical skills. Scientific/economic background is a plus
- Strong drafting skills and ability to turn complex content into concise and valuable policy input
- Good knowledge of all Microsoft Office tools and desktop research
- Have excellent command of written and spoken English (native or equivalent). Mastery of another EU language is a plus
KNOWLEDGE & ATTRIBUTES
- Knowledge of EU Energy and Climate issues
- Interest for the oil & gas industry, and low-carbon technologies
